Day 1 – Arrival in Cusco

You may choose to embark on a half-day tour of Cusco either in the morning or in the afternoon. Known as the “Archaeological Capital of the Americas”, Cusco was the heart of the Inca Empire during the 14th and 15th centuries. Today, the city blends ancient pre-Inca and Inca architecture with Spanish colonial styles, showcasing its rich history and culture.

The tour begins at the Cusco Cathedral (Catedral del Cuzco), located on the Plaza de Armas. Here, you will admire its outstanding architecture and view several masterpieces by artists of the renowned Cusco School (Escuela Cusqueña). Next, we will visit the Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha), the most sacred Inca site dedicated to the Sun God (Inti). After the Spanish conquest, the Convent of Santo Domingo was built over it, yet many finely crafted Inca stone walls remain intact to this day.

We then continue to Sacsayhuaman, a ceremonial fortress built with massive stone blocks, offering breathtaking views of Cusco. Afterwards, we will visit Q’enqo, an archaeological site with mysterious underground passages; Puca Pucara, a fortress showcasing Inca military architecture; and finally Tambomachay, renowned for its elegant aqueducts, water channels, and waterfalls that demonstrate the Incas’ advanced hydraulic engineering skills.

After this enriching cultural and archaeological journey, you will return to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax or further explore this enchanting city.

Today’s journey takes you from Pisac to Ollantaytambo, and finally to Chinchero. We will guide you through the Sacred Valley—once the heart of the Inca Empire and an important agricultural center.

The first stop is the significant Inca archaeological site of Pisac, renowned for its expansive agricultural terraces and its strategic position as the southern gateway to the Sacred Valley. After visiting the ruins, we will head to the town’s handicraft market.

Next, we continue to Ollantaytambo, an Inca fortress guarding the northern entrance of the Sacred Valley. Climb its series of terraces, stroll along its narrow ancient paths, and gain insight into its military, defensive, religious, and agricultural importance.

The final stop is Chinchero, a traditional Andean town that was once the royal estate of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. In the town’s main square, you will see well-preserved Inca stone walls and visit a colonial church built on Inca foundations. After enjoying Chinchero’s rich history and scenic views, we will return to Cusco.

We will transfer you from your hotel to the train station, where you will board a scenic train to Aguas Calientes. Along the way, enjoy the lush mountain and valley landscapes that set the stage for the adventure ahead. Upon arrival, you will meet your guide and proceed to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Perched high in the Andes, this legendary “Lost City of the Incas” showcases the extraordinary achievements of Inca architecture and engineering. As you wander through its temples, plazas, and terraces, surrounded by breathtaking panoramic views, you will be amazed at the skill that allowed this masterpiece to withstand centuries of earthquakes and harsh weather.

After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Aguas Calientes — enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, shop for unique souvenirs, or unwind with a visit to the town’s famous hot springs (optional). In the afternoon, we will take the train back to Cusco, and upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel to relax and reflect on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
